Curbing Obesity with Healthy Sleep

June 27, 2011

CNN Health reports that obesity is an increasing trend in America's youngest children, as The Institute of Medicine (IOM) releases the first ever report on obesity prevention policies for children birth to age 5 years. The report suggests policies that promote healthy eating, activity, and sleep for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, including recommendations about age-appropriate sleep duration for this age group. Elsie Taveras, MD, MPH of Harvard Medical School served on the IOM's committee on childhood obesity and authored the chapter on sleep.
