Boston Globe: "Dream Doctor"

An interview in the Boston Globe with J. Allan Hobson discusses his new book "Dream Life: An Experimental Memoir," in which Hobson develops a new theory of dreaming that he calls ‚Äúprotoconsciousness.‚ÄĚ Hobson suggests that dreams do not represent subconscious desires, as Freud indicated, nor are they the meaningless random byproduct of brain activity during sleep; rather, they are an innate practice simulation for life, helping the dreamer prepare for difficult situations that they may encounter and ensure their survival.
