Healthy People 2020 includes new sleep health objective

December 2, 2010

Healthy People 2020 seeks to increase public knowledge about the importance of sleep and treatment of sleep disorders to improve the overall health of Americans in its first ever objectives addressing sleep health. The sleep health objectives intend to increase the proportion of people who seek treatment for Sleep Apnea, reduce the rate of automobile accidents caused by drowsy driving, and increase the proportion of high school students and adults who get adequate sleep.

Healthy People 2020 is the fourth in a series of 10-year national objectives to improve the overall health of Americans by encouraging collaborations across sectors, helping people make informed health decisions, and measuring the impact of prevention activities. The overarching objective is to improve health and quality of life across all groups and life-stages.
