October 11, 2010

On October 11, 2010, the Institute of Medicine inducted Clifford B. Saper, MD, PhD, James Jackson Putnam Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, and Head of the Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Saper was among 65 elected to the IOM last year at their 39th annual meeting.

Also at this year's meeting, Dr. Charles Czeisler, Chief of Harvard Medical School's Division of Sleep Medicine, Baldino Professor of Sleep Medicine, and HMS Senior Physician was among 65 new members elected IOM. Including Dr. Czeisler, 9 of the newly elected members are HMS faculty members as well.

Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. With their election, members make a commitment to volunteer a significant amount of time on IOM committees, which engage in a broad range of studies on health policy issues.
