"Cold Chemistry: Handling Conflicts with Your Colleagues"

March 3, 2009 4:00 pm - March 3, 2009 5:30 pm

The CFDD invites Postdocs, Fellows and Residents to a performance of interactive theater presented by Harvard University’s Bok Center Players: "Cold Chemistry: Handling Conflicts with Your Colleagues". Your boss is swamped. Tension is mounting between your colleagues. Your work may be compromised, but is it your mess to clean up? Your work may be compromised, but how much of it is your responsibility? How do you handle complex interpersonal dynamics given the hierarchy involved, particularly when hidden biases may be at play? Actors from the Bok Center Players will present an interactive theater piece: a short sketch followed by a facilitated discussion among actors and audience members. Join us for an engaging approach to developing new strategies for dealing with interpersonal conflict in academic settings. This performance is geared toward Postdocs, Fellows and Residents, however all interested parties are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Bok Center Players are a relatively new theater group based at Harvard University's Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. The players perform live, interactive theater to spark discussions of complex pedagogical and academic life topics. The ultimate purpose of the Players is to improve the quality of teaching, learning, and laboratory experience. The plays are especially effective at drawing audiences into rich discussions of difficult topics.
