Research Interests

The interplay between diverse neurological disorders in children with sleep is my main area of clinical research. Specifically, the relationship between epilepsy and sleep in children in clinical practice has been my established area of clinical interest. In addition, recently I have developed interest in assessing sleep disorders in children with rare genetic syndromes (Angelman, Rett, Prader Willi, Williams, 15q duplication, 16p11 del) with a special emphasis on sudden death in sleep in this population. I am also interested in assessing imaging abnormalities of the brain of children with diverse sleep disorders like sleep apnea, sleep deprivation, obesity, delayed sleep phase syndrome, etc, and the effects of interventions in improving these abnormalities, assessed both on anatomical as well as functional MRI techniques. I have always been interested in developing and participating in multi-centric studies to evaluate use of medications in treating children with insomnia, and hypersomnia from diverse causes. I have also actively striven in developing collaboration with the biomedical engineering department so as to combine technological advances in computational analysis to evaluate multiple aspects of sleep physiology across ages.  Finally, I am very interested in assessing effects of sleep education techniques in improving outcomes in diagnosis and interventions in children by primary care physicians, including residents in training.
