Research Interests
My research explores the neurobiology of sleep, focusing on three topics:
1. the cognitive benefits of sleep (e.g. declarative memory consolidation)
2. the cognitive detriments of sleep deprivation (e.g. prefrontal cortical dysfunction)
3. the relationship between neurologic diseases and sleep (e.g. parasomnias and nocturnal frontal lobe epislepsy)

Teaching
"The Sleeping Brain" (Neurobiology 95hfj, Harvard University). This year-long seminar takes a systems-level approach to the exploration of the neurobiology of sleep. An entire section is dedicated to understanding the interaction between sleep and behavioral neuroscience (e.g. memory consolidation). There is some discussion of sleep disorders, particularly ones that that reveal fundamental principles in sleep neurobiology (e.g. narcolepsy) and those that provoke our ability (or lack thereof) to adequately define sleep (e.g. parasomnias).
