August 18, 2008 - September 21, 2008The Harvard Extension School is pleased to offer the course BIOL E-210: The Physiology of Sleep. Directed by Stephen A. Shea, PhD, this course is being offered in the fall. Class meets this fall (2008) on Mondays from 7:35pm-9:35pm at the Shapiro Clinical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (East Campus).
This seminar course is designed to examine and discuss topics related to sleep and sleep medicine. Each session is two hours long and consists of student presentations, class discussion, and a brief faculty-guided lecture.
The main focus of the course is the neurophysiology, physiology, psychology, pathology and functions of sleep -- particularly in humans. Participation is a critical component of this course, and in an effort to promote class discussion, students are required to maintain a weekly research journal. The main objectives of this course are to examine the structure of the scientific method, effectively think about a scientific question, and successfully develop and test a hypothesis.
Application should be made as early as possible (starting August 18th) and will be considered on a space-available basis until the start of each course.
For more information about this course, visit the course website. To register (on or after August 18th), go to the Harvard Extention School website and click on "Register".
