Peter C. Farrell Professorship of Sleep Medicine

The first incumbent of the Peter C. Farrell Professorship of Sleep Medicine should be a distinguished physician-scientist with a strong academic background and an outstanding clinical research program on the impact of the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing/sleep apnea on associated cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, diastolic dysfunction, congestive heart failure and stroke.  Candidates should be board certified in Cardiology or Pulmonary Medicine, or in Neurology and in Sleep Medicine.  In addition, candidates should be internationally recognized leaders in research and have extensive experience in patient-oriented research in these areas, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, grant funding and receipt of honors by professional societies.

The Peter C. Farrell Professor in the Division of Sleep Medicine at the Harvard Medical School will be equally based in the departments of medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and will also participate in teaching activities at these institutions and the Harvard Medical School.
